No Matter Where You Are, With Ring, You’re Always Close to People Who Mean the Most. Happy Valentine’s Day, Neighbors!

By Ring on February 14, 2020

Love is being there for people who are dear to your heart and showing them that you care in gestures both big and small. With Ring, you can always stay connected with your loved ones at home, making sure they are safe and showing them your appreciation. So no matter where you are, you’re never too far from those you love—even on the most romantic day of the year.

Last year, Hady experienced firsthand how small acts of kindness can be so memorable on Valentine's Day. It was a snowy day at his home in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and he was “having a bad day.” A lousy Valentine’s Day can be hard for anyone, but Hady's luck was about to change. He received an alert from his Ring Video Doorbell and opened the Ring App to see something unexpected: his two next door neighbors of 10 years were outside his front door, singing into his video doorbell to lift his spirits.

“They came to [cheer] me up. On Valentine’s Day… they came to show me how much they love me.”

Hady was so thankful for their timely visit and saved the video on his phone “to watch every time I’m sad.”

Hady wasn’t the only one touched by a sweet gesture on Valentine's Day. Christina and her husband, Armando, live in Cypress, Texas, and because they work different hours, they don't have the opportunity to see each other as often as they'd like. Because of that, they've made it a daily tradition to use their Ring Video Doorbell to connect with each other when they can't be together in person.

“He leaves at 4 in the morning and gets home at 3," Christina said. "I leave at 8 a.m. and sometimes get home after midnight.”

Often, their video doorbell is the only way they communicate before the start of their days to let each other know that they care, like they did on Valentine’s Day a couple of years ago.

Christina said that while they could use their smartphones to connect, there's something special about sending messages through their Ring Video Doorbell.

“It gives [you] an unexpected hello or goodbye. We are able to see and communicate with each other in a way that is comforting and sometimes playful — unexpected, even.”

In Evans, Colorado, Eric and Samantha are in a similar situation. Eric works different hours than his fiance, getting home from work every day before her. While they may not see each other as often as they would like, that doesn’t stop Eric from taking the time to send little messages to her.

“Every once in awhile, he does something silly, such as dancing, making funny faces, ducking down, etc. I work late into the evening and it definitely [brings] a smile to my face,” Samantha said.

Rachel also had an unexpected surprise planned for her girlfriend that she was sure would bring a smile to her face. She and Alyssa have been together since their first date on the day after Valentine's Day in 2017. Last year, the couple had just finished a romantic dinner in Noblesville, Indiana, and was on their way home. It seemed like the end to a normal evening, but for Rachel, it was anything but.

The surprise started with an unplanned stop at Alyssa’s childhood house where Rachel had decorated the front porch with Christmas lights, a favorite of Alyssa’s. After a few moments, Rachel kneeled and asked the question — "Will you marry me?”

Alyssa said yes, and her parent’s Ring Video Doorbell saved the proposal for their family and friends to watch. This was important to them both, because while they were able to have this moment to themselves, they were still able to share it with everyone they love.

“It was very exciting to get the video," Rachel said. "I showed everyone who would watch, from my mom to the HR manager at my work. It let us share the moment without having to share the actual exact moment it happened. It let our families be a part of the magic after the fact.”

We hope that these stories of how Ring helped people stay connected with their loved ones have warmed your heart this Valentine’s Day. From all of us at Ring, we hope you have a safe and happy holiday. And remember, no matter where you are, with Ring, you're always home.
