Ring Launches 24/7 Recording and New Features Along with Revamped Subscription Service: Ring Home

By Eric Kuhn, GM, Ring Subscriptions and Experience on October 2, 2024

For more than 10 years, we’ve been committed to making the Ring products you own better through software updates. Today, we’re bringing even more convenience and peace of mind to Ring doorbells and cameras with 24/7 Recording and four new subscription features: Video Preview Alerts, Extended Live View, Continuous Live View, and Doorbell Calls. All will be available through specific subscription plan tiers of Ring Home (formerly Ring Protect).

24/7 Recording

We’re excited to deliver one of our most highly requested features: 24/7 Recording (included in the Ring Home Premium plan. More details on Ring Home plans are below). With 24/7 Recording, eligible wired cameras can continuously record and capture activity even outside of motion zones, giving you an even better understanding of what’s happening around your home or business.

Video Preview Alerts

With new Video Preview Alerts (included in Ring Home Basic, Standard, and Premium plans), you can see what triggered a camera’s detection and alert without opening the Ring App. We launched Rich Notifications in 2020 to give you a better sense of the type of motion that triggered an alert. Customers loved that experience and wanted even more information in their notifications. Video Preview Alerts now deliver a short video clip directly in your Ring push notification, letting you preview the motion activity and easily decide what to do, from nothing to engaging more deeply with Two-Way Talk or Live View.

Extended Live View and Continuous Live View

Today, you can watch a Live View for up to 10 minutes, which for most people is more than enough time see what’s happening at your location. However, some customers told us they want even more Live View time so they can truly be in two places at once. Whether you want to see your kids playing outside while you’re inside cooking, or you’re a small business owner watching a back room delivery while managing checkout, Extended Live View (included in Ring Home Standard) lets you now watch your camera feed live for up to 30 minutes. For customers with Ring Home Premium and cameras with 24/7 Recording enabled, you can watch the feed for even longer with Continuous Live View.

Doorbell Calls

Doorbell Calls (included in Ring Home Standard and Premium) helps you never miss a doorbell ring. When someone rings your doorbell, Doorbell Calls will ring your phone, like you’re receiving a video call, instead of receiving a push notification. You can answer immediately and speak directly to your visitor through Live View.

New Features, New Name, Same Price

Ring Protect is now Ring Home, and is designed to help you see more, know more, and protect more. These five new features will all be available through Ring Home. Like Ring Protect, Ring Home includes three plan tiers, and they are priced the same as Ring Protect: Home Basic ($4.99/month), Home Standard ($9.99/month), and Home Premium ($19.99/month). Now, you can individually add services like Virtual Security Guard or Alarm Professional Monitoring (priced separately) to a Ring Home Standard or Ring Home Premium plan to tailor and enhance your home security experience.

These features are starting to roll out later this month and will be available worldwide through Ring Home plans on November 5, 2024.
