Ring Delivers Customers More Connectivity and Clarity with 2K Video and Smart Smoke Alarms with Kidde
By Liz Hamren, Ring CEO on January 6, 2025
Since Ring was founded in 2013, we’ve reimagined how customers stay connected to the things that matter to them. Whether it’s a video doorbell to greet guests, a motion-activated floodlight camera to light up a backyard, or a DIY Alarm system to keep homes and businesses secure after hours, we are constantly inventing for customers. We’ve grown to offer more than 50 products across five categories, with cameras among our fastest growing and most popular products today. While we started by introducing the world’s first video doorbell, we’ve grown into a company that keeps people connected to the things most important to them. We are on a journey to create a fully connected environment where customers feel safe, confident, and in control, and we are taking another step on that journey today by introducing new offerings.
Connecting Leaders in Smart Home Protection and Fire Safety to Deliver Smart Smoke + Combination Alarms
Together with Kidde, we are introducing a collection of Smart Smoke and Combination Alarms (Smoke + CO) with Ring technology built-in, empowering customers to better protect their home from anywhere. Ring is also introducing a new optional 24/7 Smoke & CO Monitoring service for even more peace of mind.
Home fires today burn hotter and faster[i], causing more damage than ever before. In an emergency, every second counts, and with Kidde we’re enabling customers to act fast. When the alarms detect unsafe levels of smoke or carbon monoxide, they alert customers in real-time via the Ring app. The alarms are Wi-Fi connected and do not require a Ring Alarm, hub, or other device to operate. Kidde’s enhanced sensing technology has 25 percent faster[ii] and up to three times more precise[iii] smoke detection, and the alarms’ advanced technology reduces false alarms[iv] often caused by cooking. When a customer adds one of these new alarms to their home, they can also get real-time alarm alerts via the Ring app from other eligible hardwired Kidde alarms in their home.
We’re also minimizing the nuisance of the low battery chirp by giving customers approximately seven days advance notice of their alarm battery running low in the Ring app, so they can replace the batteries before the alarm starts chirping.
New 24/7 Smoke & CO Monitoring
With Ring’s new optional 24/7 Smoke & CO Monitoring service, trained agents can request emergency help and alert a customer’s emergency contacts in the event of an alarm[v]. For around the price of a single coffee per month ($5/month), customers can have comfort knowing a professional agent is at the ready to act on behalf of the safety of their home. The new service will work with these new smart alarms and with Ring’s Alarm Smoke & CO Listener, and does not require an existing Ring Home subscription.
The Smart Smoke Alarm and Combination Alarm (Smoke + CO) will be available in the U.S. exclusively through The Home Depot beginning in April 2025. Customers can sign up here to be notified when the alarms are available for purchase. The optional Ring 24/7 Smoke & CO Monitoring service will be available for $5/month beginning April 2, 2025 through Ring.com.
Introducing Brilliant Clarity and Color with 2K Video
We’re enhancing Ring’s camera lineup with 2K video resolution on Floodlight Cam Pro and Spotlight Cam Pro. While Ring’s existing HD Video delivers crisp resolution, we are always working to enhance the Ring experience for both new and existing customers, and 2K will deliver even greater sharpness and texture quality for enhanced detail and clarity.
We know video quality is important to customers, and at the heart of all Ring’s image quality is Ring Vision. Ring Vision combines software, hardware, and Ring’s internal expertise to ensure balanced color, contrast, and motion smoothing so customers see each moment in brilliant detail.
2K video will start rolling out on Floodlight Cam Pro and Spotlight Cam Pro beginning January 8, 2025. Existing customers will be able to upgrade their Floodlight Cam Pro and Spotlight Cam Pro to 2K resolution at no added cost through the Ring app.
