Keep Your Packages Safe This Holiday Season
By Ring on November 13, 2018
On November 28, 2018, Ring will celebrate the third annual National Package Protection Day! This is a day that encourages homeowners to stay alert and protect against package theft during the holiday season. The days following Black Friday and Cyber Monday are some of the busiest for package deliveries and, in turn, package thefts.
With 75 percent of homeowners believing package theft is more of a problem during the holidays than other times of year, Ring is sharing a few tips to help neighbors keep holiday packages from getting swiped.
4 Tips for Protecting Your Packages
- Join a Neighborhood Watch – It’s important to stay connected to your neighbors to stay up-to-date on what’s going on in the community. With Neighbors, a neighborhood watch app that provides real-time, local crime and safety information, communities are able to keep in touch and alert their neighbors of any porch pirates in the area. - Use Smart Home Technology – The Ring Video Doorbell sends instant alerts to your mobile device when anyone rings the bell or approaches your front door; so you’ll always know when packages are delivered or if thieves are lurking. And with Ring’s Two-Way Talk feature, you can tell your courier where to hide your packages or ward off strangers. In addition to a Ring device, add Amazon Key to your front door so your USPS delivery can be placed safely inside your home even if you’re not there.
- Consider an Amazon Locker – Amazon Lockers are perfect for anyone who is planning to be away for days at a time and is looking to secure their packages in another location under lock and key. Click here to find your nearest Amazon Locker location.
- Spread Awareness Of National Package Protection Day – Neighbors can help spread the message of National Package Protection Day by sharing their package protection tips with each other and spreading awareness using the hashtag #PackageProtectionDay on social media. “We’re always aiming to educate neighbors on the best ways to protect their valuable holiday deliveries,” said Jamie Siminoff, Ring’s founder and Chief Inventor. “Most of the packages ordered on Cyber Monday arrive two days later, which is why Ring decided to dedicate the following Wednesday to National Package Protection Day. Now, thanks to Ring’s line of home security products, homeowners can have peace of mind knowing their holiday packages are safe.”
With the average cost of a stolen package around $140, consumers should know their valuable packages are safe upon delivery. This National Package Protection Day, Ring is committed to putting an end to porch pirates once and for all.
