The Journey From the Front Door to the NYC Marathon
By Ring on June 4, 2026
Most people train for a marathon behind closed doors. The early mornings, the aching legs, the moments where you question everything. But for Devin Meyrer, his Ring Video Doorbell documented it all.
Over the course of his NYC Marathon training, Devin's front door became an unintentional finish line. His Ring Video Doorbell captured him returning home from 16 to 24-mile runs, drenched in sweat, legs heavy with fatigue, and groaning his way back inside. It caught the raw, unfiltered reality of what it takes to prepare your body for 26.2 miles.
"When I would come home, all of the fatigue and exhaustion would hit, and our Ring caught several moments of me truly showcasing how hard marathon training can be," Devin shared.
The compilation is exactly what you'd expect from someone pushing their body to the limit: groans, gripes, and the kind of exhaustion that only double-digit mileage can deliver.
Then there's the moment that still gives Devin goosebumps. The moment his hard work finally clicked.
A phone call with a friend, confidence radiating after weeks of relentless work. What he said? "Oh yeah, baby, we're fit."
For Devin, sharing these moments weren’t about showing off a fast finish time. It was about something deeper.
"Social media is often flooded with our highlight reels," he explained. "I loved collecting these videos because I felt like it gave me the opportunity to connect with others through transparency and vulnerability. Though I ran fairly well at the NYC marathon, I wanted to show people that I bleed, work hard, and suffer the same way that everyone else does."
After 15 years of running, including competing in the NCAA, Devin has rebuilt his relationship with the sport from the ground up. Marathon training now gives him a safe space to challenge himself and prove that he can do anything he sets his mind to.
"There's a power to showcasing our own vulnerability," he said. "It makes us human and gives us a better chance to connect with others."
Devin's wife played a supporting role in this training journey, too. While motion notifications captured most of his returns home, there were times she'd pull up Live View to watch him stumble back to the front door.
"She would either laugh at my suffering, in a loving way, or provide me with words of encouragement when I was clearly hurting," Devin said.
"When I leave the house to run, knowing that the Ring continues to watch over the most valuable thing in my life, my wife, gives me the peace of mind to go out and enjoy my runs and live free of stress or burden."
His Ring Video Doorbell didn't just help protect his home. It helped him document a journey of grit, growth, and the kind of vulnerability that brings people together.
"I love how the Ring community genuinely wants to look after and support one another. Our Ring community in SE Michigan is always willing to offer support and answer questions for other people. I love the sense of community we have," he said.
