National Siblings Day: The Bonds That Distance Can’t Break

By Ring on April 8, 2026

National Siblings Day is a celebration of the people who know us best: our brothers and sisters. Whether they're making us laugh, driving us crazy, or showing up when we need them most, sibling moments are the ones that stick with us. These family memories aren't just snapshots in time. They're the stories we tell for years, the inside jokes no one else gets, and the connections that distance can't break. This National Siblings Day, we're celebrating real sibling moments shared by Ring customers, from heartwarming reunions to playful squabbles that only siblings could have.

The Smile That Made 2,700 Miles Disappear

Nathaniel didn't recognize the voice at first. Standing at the front door of his family's Washington home, the little boy heard someone calling his name through the Ring Video Doorbell. But it wasn't until he heard that familiar laugh that it clicked: Sissy. His face lit up instantly, and that smile made his sister feel a little less homesick 2,700 miles away in Alabama. "His sister is his absolute favorite person in the world," says mom Christina. The two had been apart for nine days while Sissy visited friends down south, and for Nathaniel, those days felt like forever.

When Bears Know Your Garbage Day Better Than You Do

James wasn't alarmed when his Ring Floodlight Cam captured the two bears scuffling over their prize. He's used to seeing them, and they usually keep to themselves. "It is important to keep your distance and both acknowledge each other's presence," he says. When he went out later to make some noise, they eventually moved on to the next house. The cleanup wasn't too bad this time. Thankfully, it was mostly diapers. Other times, the bears drag trash bags into the woods and tear them open there. And sometimes they leave "surprise" dumps in the yard. This was the first time James caught them playing on video, and the neighborhood got a good laugh out of it.

The Secret Handshake That Wasn't So Secret After All

Benit and Clayton were practicing their secret handshake at the front door on the first day of first grade. Their mom, Angela, was already at work when she got a Ring alert and watched the sweet, brotherly moment on Live View. The boys were mortified that their secret had been revealed, but Angela was glad she could save and share the video. "I knew as soon as I saw the exchange between the boys, I had to share it with my wife," Angela says. "The video camera is a diary of what happens in and around our home every day, and I get to carry it with me, in my pocket."

Fighting Or Playing? Only These Sibling Cats Know

Michelle's cats are siblings who enjoy spending time together on the deck while she's at work. On this day, a squabble ensued. What do you think: were they fighting or just playing?

A Cross-Country Surprise

Damaris hadn't seen her brother, Dakota, in quite some time and she wasn't expecting him to come for a visit. In secret, he flew all the way from California to Wisconsin to surprise her. When he arrived at her doorstep, he started chatting over her Ring Video Doorbell for the big reveal, but his plan failed. The surprise was on him, as she wasn't even home and pulled up moments later as he was scrambling for a new plan.

From cross-country surprises to secret handshakes, these sibling moments remind us that the best family memories often happen in the everyday. Whether it's a smile that bridges 2,700 miles or a squabble on the deck, Ring helps capture the moments that matter most. This National Siblings Day, we're celebrating the bonds that make life a little more interesting, one doorbell ring at a time.
