March Madness in the Driveway: Home Court Advantage
By Ring on March 6, 2026
March Madness doesn't just live on the court. It lives in the in-between moments that happen when no one's watching. Or so you think. While the world is filling out brackets and calling upsets, some of the best plays can happen in driveways, backyards, and front yards. From a dad landing trick shots one-handed with a baby in his arms to a teenager accidentally sinking a basketball with a soccer move, these moments weren't planned or practiced, but that's exactly what makes them unforgettable.
When a Soccer Move Accidentally Became the Trick Shot of the Year
Nineteen-year-old Mackenzie was showing her younger brother Jake how to do a soccer rainbow kick when she accidentally sunk a basketball in the hoop in the driveway. "She told me it happened, and was sad no one was recording it," says mom Carolynne. Thanks to her Ring Protect subscription, Carolynne found the video and said, "I was so glad the Ring doorbell caught it! It was so cool to see." When the most unbelievable moments happen, Ring is there to make sure no one misses them.
First Day, First Try — Nothing But Net
The basketball hoop had been set up for maybe 15 minutes when Rylan pulled off one of the most jaw-dropping shots of the year. While his parents were loading up the car to leave, Rylan launched a behind-the-back shot and sunk it clean. "I was sorry I missed it," admits dad Luke — until he remembered the family's Ring device was above the driveway. "I bet we got that on video," he said. When he checked the footage, it was all there. The family played it back, celebrated, and Rylan had one simple request: show everyone.
The Backwards Shot, the Baby, and the Proof
Matthew quietly perfected 7 to 8 trick shots, some landing on the very first try and this compilation has it all. From Jeffery kicking things off at the start to his son Wesley breaking it down with his signature moves, but the moment that stops everyone mid-scroll? Matthew making a one-handed shot while holding his daughter Giuliette in his arms. The hardest shot in the reel? The backwards one, of course! Because, as Matthew puts it, "It was backwards."
Buckets
He's not even 2 yet, but Zach's son Miles already has a signature move and a signature word to go with it. "Buckets." The family had barely finished setting up a brand-new basketball hoop when Miles launched a shot...then launched another...and another. Zach says he's proud and impressed by his son's skills. "Moments like this are even more reason why we own so many Ring devices," he continues.
March Madness ends when the final buzzer sounds, but the moments that happen at home don't follow a schedule. They happen fast, without warning, and usually when no one's looking. And that's exactly why Ring is there — to make sure the moments that matter most are never just a memory. Make your own unforgettable memories to look back on again and again with a Ring Protect Plan and make sure your next highlight reel is always rolling.
