Celebrating Good Neighbors: How Small Acts Build Stronger Neighborhoods

By Ring on September 4, 2024

Here at Ring, we celebrate good neighbors every day. They’re the ones who wave hello as you get the mail or generously lend you a cup of sugar when you’ve run out. In honor of Good Neighbor Day, which falls on September 28, we encourage you to engage in a random act of kindness, whether it's paying for someone's coffee, helping an elderly neighbor with the trash bins, or volunteering locally. Take a look at how some members of our community spread neighborly love, captured by their Ring devices.

Start with Hello

When was the last time you connected with your neighbors? Sometimes something as simple as a “hello” can make all the difference, or if you really want to make a lasting first impression, share some homegrown goods. That’s exactly what Devin’s neighbor Gizele did by dropping off fresh apricots at his door. In return, he gave her some oranges and lemons from his fruit trees.

Lend a Helping Hand

When a major winter storm dumped heavy snow on the neighborhood, one resident stepped up to lend a hand in a big way. Capturing the kind gesture on his Ring Video Doorbell, George watched as his neighbor deployed his backhoe to clear driveways for the entire community.

Give a Sweet Surprise

Rebecca and her husband have made a habit of leaving monthly treats and refreshments for their delivery drivers. One driver’s reaction stood out to them the most. Rebecca says she was so moved by this driver's genuine joy and thankfulness, especially knowing he was working out there in the summer heat.

Fix What Went Wrong

Sometimes accidents happen, but good neighbors know how to make things right. While mowing their lawn, Courtney's neighbor accidentally ran over her baby blueberry bush. Rather than ignoring the mishap, the neighbor's kids brought over new plants to remedy the situation. Small acts of kindness have the power to make a wrong right again.

Return a Lost Item

After losing his wallet with $2,300 inside, Carlos was overjoyed when a nearby neighbor named Peter found it and returned the wallet intact. Thanks to Peter's selfless deed, Carlos was reunited with his lost belongings and was reminded that there are still caring people looking out for their neighbors.

Meet Your Neighbors Halfway

Struggling to pull the last, heavy trash bin from her steep driveway, Laura was grateful when one of the collectors went out of his way to carry the bin for her. A small act of kindness can truly make someone's day, even in the most ordinary of circumstances.

This Good Neighbor Day, be the friendly face that makes someone's day a little brighter. Have a good neighbor you want to highlight, share your moments by e-mailing us at stories@ring.com.
