These Outdoor Gadgets Can Help Bring Your Smart Home Outside

By Ring on April 11, 2025

With summer around the corner, you’ll be spending more and more time outdoors in the coming months. Whether you like to entertain, perfect your landscaping, or just relax on a breezy evening, there are plenty of outdoor smart home devices that will come in handy for summer.

These outdoor gadgets can help maintain your outdoor spaces, keep you and your guests safe, and save you time while you make the most of the summer weather.

Ring Smart Lighting

With Ring solar-powered outdoor lighting and a Ring Bridge (sold separately), you can take advantage of the hot sun during the day and add warm, moody lighting to your outdoor spaces after dark.1 2

When placed in direct sunlight, your solar Pathlights, Steplights, and Wall Lights will charge automatically.1 After the sun sets, you can turn them on in the Ring App with a few taps or set schedules to ensure your lights are on when you spend time outdoors. For example, you could set your Ring lighting to turn on at sunset and off when you typically head to bed. Once everyone is inside, you can change the settings to have your lights turn on when motion is detected.

Outdoor Security Cameras

When you can’t be part of the action outside, Ring outdoor security cameras can help keep you connected. If your kids are doing cartwheels in the backyard while you’re inside making dinner, for example, you can watch Live View on your Stick Up Cam to check in on the fun. With Two-Way Talk, you can even let them know dinner’s ready while you add the finishing touches.

You can also use a Spotlight Cam or Floodlight Cam to help boost safety and visibility in large areas. If someone walks by, your camera will automatically shine a bright light, begin recording, and send you a notification, so you know when there’s activity outside. You can even set an automation for your cameras to start recording if your Ring smart lighting detects motion in another area.

Smart Lawn Mower

If you want the satisfaction of a freshly mowed lawn without the hard work or sweat, a smart lawn mower is the perfect addition to your outdoor smart home.

After programming your mower in a compatible app, you can sit back and relax while it works its way around your yard. When it’s finished, your smart lawn mower will head back to a docking station to charge in preparation for the next mow. Keep in mind that it may take a little trial and error to get the cut just right, especially if your mower has to work around flower beds or mow on a slope.

Smart Sprinkler System

If you’re tired of tinkering with your sprinkler settings every time a surprise thunderstorm rolls through, it’s time to switch to a smart sprinkler system. A smart system can automatically anticipate your watering needs based on the forecast and your lawn’s moisture levels, so over-watering (and unexpectedly high water bills) becomes a thing of the past. You can also use your phone or voice assistant to turn your system on or off, even if you’re away from home.

Smart Grill

With a smart grill, getting that perfect sear on your burgers or steaks is a whole lot easier. A smart grill can monitor the temperature of your food and the surrounding environment, so you know exactly when dinner needs to come off the flame. Plus, you don’t have to hover over the hot grill while you wait — just check in on your phone to see where your food is at.

Ring Outdoor Smart Plug

You don’t have to upgrade every device to enjoy an outdoor smart home. Just plug your existing devices, like string lights or an outdoor projector, into a Ring Outdoor Smart Plug. With a Ring Bridge (sold separately), you can turn everything on and off in the Ring App.2

Smart Pool Cleaner

Keeping up with pool maintenance isn’t always easy, especially if your summer schedule is jam-packed. With a smart pool cleaner, you can automatically keep your pool clean, so it’s debris-free when you’re ready to take a plunge.

Smart pool cleaners move back and forth along the bottom and sides of your pool to capture dirt and debris. Once it completes its cleaning cycle, all you have to do is clean out the filter and put it back on its charging dock. Depending on the model you choose, you may be able to set schedules on your phone and access data about your pool, such as the current temperature.
