How to Protect Your Home With Ring

By Ring on October 26, 2023

From the living room and front door to the backyard and driveway, Ring has innovative products to help protect nearly every aspect of the place you call home. Whether you’re just getting started with security or looking for ways to build on your existing system, here are some ways you can help improve security with Ring.

Secure Entry Points With Ring Alarm

Whether you’re inside binging a new show or relaxing on a beach across the country, a Ring Alarm security system can help give visibility into what’s happening (or not happening) around and inside your home. There are three Alarm modes you can use, based on your current needs and location: Home (for when you’re relaxing inside), Away (for when you’re gone), and Disarmed (for when you want to roam around inside and out without triggering the Alarm).1

When your system is in Home or Away mode, the Contact Sensors on your doors and windows trigger the Alarm if something gets opened. Motion Detectors can alert you after sensing motion in an entryway, hallway, or anywhere else you want to monitor. Your Base Station will sound a siren when a sensor is triggered, and with a Ring Protect subscription, sold separately, you’ll also get real-time notifications on your Ring App.1

A Ring Protect Pro subscription, sold separately, also gives you the option to enroll in 24/7 Alarm Professional Monitoring, which means a trained agent will also get around-the-clock alerts when Alarm is triggered.2 If you take a scenic hike and lose cell service or miss a notification while sound asleep, an agent will attempt to reach you and emergency contacts to confirm the situation and dispatch the authorities if you request help or can’t answer.

With Ring Alarm Pro, you can also help secure your digital life. The Alarm Pro Base Station doubles as an eero router, the center of your mesh wifi system, to automatically apply critical security updates and provide built-in encryption for sensitive data.3

Monitor Activity With Indoor and Outdoor Cameras

Ring cameras allow you to see what's happening around your home, from special deliveries and heartwarming moments to unexpected furry visitors and severe weather conditions. After detecting motion, your camera begins recording and sends a notification to the Ring App, and you can see real-time footage from Live View. And if you need to speak to someone from afar, like your partner or a delivery driver, you can have a conversation using Two-Way Talk.

Outdoor cameras are helpful in keeping track of activity around entryways, garages, sheds, pools, yards, and other areas around your home. Options with built-in lighting, like Floodlight Cam and Spotlight Cam, also shine bright lights when motion is detected to illuminate blind spots.

Indoor cameras give a clear picture of activity inside your home and garage, allowing you to stay connected with your family members — both human and furry. Stick Up Cam with Pan-Tilt can move around to provide a complete view of a room, so you can say hi to your lounging cat on the couch and see what your energetic pup is up to across the room. Indoor Cams even have an optional privacy cover, allowing you to disable audio and video whenever you want.

If you can’t check your Ring App immediately to check out Live View after getting a Motion Alert, a Ring Protect plan (sold separately) allows you to go back and view footage from the past 180 days.4 That means you’ll never miss an important moment, even if it happened in the middle of the night or while you were on an extended vacation.

See Who Comes and Goes With a Video Doorbell

Your front door likely sees the most activity in your home each day — kids walking out to leave for school, delivery drivers knocking to alert you of a package, and your arrival after a long day at work. With a video doorbell, you can always keep up with the latest action, whether you’re home or away.

Video doorbells send Motion Alerts when activity is detected at your front door, and with a Ring Protect subscription, sold separately, you can get customized Package Alerts when a special delivery arrives. Two-Way Talk lets you thank your delivery driver, tell your friend the door’s unlocked, or wish your partner good morning as they leave for work.

Detect Potential Property Damage With Alarm Accessories

Protecting your home goes beyond securing entry points. Ring Alarm Accessories can also help detect issues that could cause damage, like running water underneath your washing machine, cold temperatures near a pipe that could freeze, and a beeping smoke or carbon monoxide detector. You can place as many Flood & Freeze Sensors, sold separately, as you need near pipes or appliances that might leak, so your Alarm will get triggered immediately when a potential problem occurs. If you already have existing smoke and CO detectors, Smoke & CO Listeners can detect their siren from six inches away, but you can also replace your detectors with First Alert Z-Wave Plus Smoke/CO Alarms and link them directly with Ring Alarm.1

With a Ring Protect subscription, sold separately, you can get alerts when your Flood & Freeze Sensor or Smoke & CO Listener get triggered, allowing you to call a neighbor or friend to assess the situation or call for help if the smoke detector goes off when nobody is home.1

Add an Extra Layer of Protection With Ring Protect Pro

A Ring Protect Pro subscription, sold separately, adds these features to Ring Alarm and cameras to level up protection and make your life easier:

  • 24/7 Alarm Professional Monitoring helps ensure no Alarm notifications get missed, even if you’re on vacation or in a meeting.2 Trained agents monitor alerts around the clock and respond based on the situation to help ensure you get the proper assistance.
  • Video History and Saving and Sharing allow you to access important footage from up to 180 days ago, download clips, and share them with friends, family, or authorities.4
  • Alarm Cellular Backup automatically kicks in when the power goes out to keep your Alarm online. With Ring Alarm Pro, you also get 24/7 Backup Internet, which extends beyond Alarm for all your connected devices.
  • Home security automations let you customize how cameras and connected devices respond after an event. For example, you can prompt your cameras to begin recording when Alarm gets triggered, so you can potentially see what caused the notification.
  • Stay Up-to-Date With Local Safety Information Using the Neighbors App
