How to Secure Your Multiple Business Locations With Ring

By Ring on September 29, 2023

Your once-small business now has locations all across town, and each one brings additional responsibilities. One of the biggest growing pains you may face is finding the right security system to use across locations — and staying up to date with security when you can’t be everywhere at once.

With the easy-to-use Ring App that lets you group devices by location, switch between sites to see live camera feeds and Alarm notifications1, and add trusted employees as Shared Users, Ring is the perfect security solution to keep you in the know, no matter where you are. Here’s how to leverage Ring products to enhance security and visibility across your multi-location business.

Develop a Customized Alarm Plan for Each Building

Just because a security setup worked perfectly at your original business location doesn’t mean it’s the right fit for your new building. First, take stock of the number of entry points and any features that may require additional monitoring, like loading docks, parking lots, garages, or outdoor patios. Then, you can determine how many Contact Sensors, Motion Detectors, Security Cameras, and Alarm Accessories you’ll need to get adequate coverage. If your new location has more foot traffic than others, you may want extra indoor security cameras or a video doorbell to see who comes and goes.

When you initially choose products for your Ring system, you’re not locked in to your setup. If one location increases in popularity, you can always add security lighting, additional cameras, and more Motion Detectors to sense activity. And if your Indoor Cam would get more use at a different building, you can always move it and change its location in the Ring App.1

Implement Access Control Across Sites

When your business only occupied one location, it was easy to see who came and went. But with several buildings, you need a better way to know who’s around when you’re not. Access control systems, like badge scanners and smart locks, can help prevent unauthorized access and keep records of when employees enter and exit.

With Ring Alarm and a Ring Protect subscription, sold separately for each location, you can integrate select smart locks into your system and control everything from the Ring App.1 The Event History will enable you to see when employees locked and unlocked the door, and you can even issue guest codes to grant one-time access.

Install Security Cameras

When you can’t be at another location to ensure everything is safe and secure, these Ring cameras can help give you critical visibility from afar:

  • Stick Up Cams can help you monitor important areas inside and outside your building, and our Pan Tilt option even enables you to swivel the camera remotely from the Ring App. That means you can get a view of the registers or front desk and move to the store floor to get the whole picture.
  • Indoor Cams are simple plug-in options that offer a clear view when needed, and the Privacy Cover allows you to turn off audio and video recording. Just like our other security cams, you get Two-Way Talk, so you can answer employees’ questions remotely.
  • Spotlight and Floodlight Cams shine a bright light and begin recording when motion is detected, which can help illuminate a safe path for your employees or alert uninvited visitors that they’re on camera. You can check in on Live View when you get a notification or look back on past footage with a Ring Protect subscription, sold separately for each location2. With an additional Virtual Security Guard subscription3, also sold separately, highly trained Rapid Response agents can use Two-Way Talk and the sirens on your compatible and enrolled outdoor cameras to try to deter unwanted activity.
  • Video Doorbells enable you to act using Two-Way Talk4 when clients or visitors stop by, and you can look back on past footage to see when a shipment was delivered with a Ring Protect subscription, sold separately.2
  • Group Ring Products by Location in the App

Keeping track of everything that happens at each business location can feel nearly impossible. But with the Ring App, you can add different addresses and assign devices to each one, enabling you to get a quick overview of recent events. Each location shows recent Alarm and camera notifications1 and Live View with real-time footage from your cameras, so you can see what’s happening in real time in just a few clicks.

Enroll in 24/7 Alarm Professional Monitoring

Between meetings with prospective clients, car rides between buildings, and conversations with new staff members, you barely have time to stop for lunch some days — let alone check your phone for Alarm notifications.1 By enrolling in 24/7 Alarm Professional Monitoring5 with each Ring Protect subscription, sold separately, you can ensure nothing gets missed, even when your phone is on silent.

If an agent notices that a Contact Sensor, Motion Detector, Glass Break Sensor, or other enrolled Accessories trigger Ring Alarm at one of your locations, they will contact you and other emergency contacts, like your co-founder or managers at different locations. If they verify the emergency or can’t reach anyone, the professional monitoring center will dispatch the authorities on your behalf.

    Make Security a Team Effort

As a multi-location business owner, you have to delegate day-to-day tasks to the people on the ground floor while you focus on long-term growth for your company. Security is one of those responsibilities you should not have to handle alone -- the Ring App can help make it a team effort.

For each location, the Ring App allows you to add Shared Users who can view camera feeds, access stored videos and Event History, arm and disarm your system, and even control connected and compatible smart locks.1 2 That way, you don’t have to look back at past footage or periodically check different camera feeds each day — instead, the managers at each location can keep track of all notifications and download any important clips you may need for later.2

With 24/7 Professional Monitoring5 and a separate Virtual Security Guard subscription,3 both sold separately, you can also add virtual agents to your team to help strengthen security. Whether you and your team have gone home for the day or taken a much-needed day off, you’ll have a team of agents checking Alarm notifications and highly trained Rapid Response professionals monitoring your enrolled and compatible camera feeds around the clock.
